Today, September 22, is Elephant Appreciation Day, a day to show how much you care about elephants. This is a big, elephant-sized day and should be celebrated in a big way.

Little kids and big kids are fascinated by elephants. In zoos, in the circus, and in wildlife specials on TV, elephants captivate us by their sheer size. Today is your chance to let them see that you appreciate them. Showing your appreciation starts with a visit to your local zoo. They will be happy to see you. Show elephants at your local zoo how much you love them by serving them a special treat. They like pumpkins! They like big pumpkins!

There are many other ways to celebrate Elephant Appreciation Day, but you can use your imagination to honor elephants in your own way. Tell elephant jokes, send emails and ecards, watch elephant videos on YouTube, or make a donation to one of the many organizations dedicated to the care and protection of the world�s largest land mammal.

My preference for elephants over donkeys puts me in a distinct minorty among contributors to Male Performer Chat. Thus Ourjeffie's praise of elephants warms the hackles of my heart, whatever a hackle is.

OurJeffie's affinity for elephants might be biased because Australian elephants are daintier than those of other continents, hopping instead of plodding and carrying their sucklings in pouches.

A recent issue of National Geographic devoted an article to saving baby elephants, a worthy project.

For calling attention to the plight of elephants OurJeffie should be commended by pachyderms and humans.

Hello madison61, you are not alone in liking that particular elephant.

But the saying is "warm the cockles of my heart." Hackles are the hairs that stand up on an animals back when it gets angry. A cockle is a shell, so in the phrase its like the "enclosure of the heart." :thumbsup

Thanks, Asti, you saved me from going to Wikipedia. Your information is an ancillary benefit to visiting Flirt4Free. Who would have considered its educational value?

I rushed home from work to make a correction. A mule should have been the beast mentioned second, not a donkey. A mule is the sterile offspring of a jackass and a mare. It is said that the mule takes no pride in his ancestry and has no hope for posterity, and is therefore a much better symbol than a donkey for the pupose I had in mind. Hackles and cockles are foreign to me but mules are familiar and I shouldn't have made that error. The keen OurJeffie would have recognized the mistake and I was anxious to make the correction before he saw it.

Now that I know about hackles and conkles I will try to incorporate them into my writings, but will no doubt get them backwards, as I did donkeys and mules. My hope for posterity is that 2012 will be the year of the elephant.

For an inexplicable reason this thread reminded me of my favorite female chatroom hostess, Miss Ella Fant, who categorized herself as "mature" and a "squirter." Her bio has disappeared, and she departed before the VOD era, but I dream yet of her full-figured, if not elephantine features. For months her nude photo was saved in my pc, bending in the shower to retrieve the soap, but had to be deleted because by itself it hogged (or elephanted) half my computer's memory.
