I've had a number of chats with some of the non-native English speakers who are performers on this site, and I want to give credit to the number of them who have remarkable language skills, sometimes in two or three languages that are not their own. Of course we probably pay more attention when there are language difficulties (and it is also the case that when it comes to intimate matters like sex, misunderstandings can be especially frustrating), but perhaps we are less aware, when things are going smoothly, what extra effort some of these guys are putting out to communicate with us in English. It is especially worth noting in this connection how few of us in the United States (I don't presume to speak for other English-speaking countries) bother to master another language. I have had the experience, living abroad, of having a boyfriend for a couple of years who spoke almost no English, and I can vouch for the amount of energy it can take--not that I regretted a minute of it, and it certainly improved my own language skills immensely.
Nothing earthshaking or ever new in all this, I guess. I just wanted to offer my thanks and praise for the guys who work so hard to entertain us! And also to apologize for putting them to the trouble--I wish I knew half a dozen Slavic languages, for example, or Romanian, since so many of my favorite guys are from Eastern Europe. And I know that when I get in one of my chatty moods I can probably make it hard for guys to keep up--that's true even for English-speakers sometimes!
I would be curious to know how many of the performers here are doing this partly in order to practice their language skills?
So thanks and kudos, gentlemen!
